Additional Reinforcement (Permanent)

Caradoc View, All Stretton, Shropshire, UK

Project Specification

This existing retaining wall, adjacent to these residential properties, was failing and required immediate attention. An added complication was that the wall was located below a busy local highway which meant it could not be removed and rebuilt. A permanent solution was required to retain the existing wall while a new retaining wall was constructed in front.

Solution

The existing retaining wall was cored and earth anchors were driven on a downward inclination of 40° to provide initial temporary support. Steel reinforcement was placed in front of the existing wall and the anchors were then used to hold back timber formwork while concrete was poured. Once cured, they were then released allowing the timber formwork to be removed. A flush fitting pattress plate was then positioned onto the cast in-situ wall and the anchor system was proof tested and locked off. Finally, the new concrete wall was faced in keeping with the local architecture. The anchor installation wasindemnified through Platipus®.
