Platipus Tree Anchor Booklet

The progress in tree handling and planting techniques over the last 200 years was demonstrated at the Royal Botanical Gardens - Kew during replanting of the Broad Walk in 2000.

The theme adopted by Kew was ‘19th Century to 21st Century’. An authentic ‘Barrens’ transplanting machine was refurbished to present a method used in the 19th century and Platipus were invited to show the latest techniques.
It took over 1 hour to secure each tree using the 19th century method and only 12 minutes using the Platipus system!

Having successfully planted the Broadwalk at Kew, we were again asked to come up with solutions for anchoring very large Palm trees inside and outside the Temperate House. Due to the root structure of palms, it is almost always recommended that they be anchored above ground.

Our Palm tree anchor kits, G3 PT4, were used to anchor these trees which were over 8 metres high, and weighing around 7 tons. These kits have individual tensioners fitted to each guy line, which allowed simple re-tensioning once the trees had settled into the pits.
