Tree Anchoring Systems and Tree Planting in Glasgow Green Scotland

Gifted to the people of Glasgow in 1450, Glasgow Green is the oldest public park in the United Kingdom. To take the Green into the 21st Century, renewal proposals were submitted in 1996 with an application for funding finally being granted by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Historic Scotland and Glasgow City Council in August 1998. During the 1999 winter, a large number of semi-mature trees were transplanted, with the removal of over mature declining and diseased tree stock.

In 2002, additional over mature or poor specimen trees were removed making way for semi-mature and topiary trees to be planted along the paths. This created an impressive tree canopy that the Green had not experienced for over 70 years.
