This 2.5 – 3.5m high boundary wall extends some 50m behind a row of eight houses and runs
adjacent to the highway. Retaining to its full height with a further panel fence on top, it was exhibiting
signs of stress cracking and had rotated out of vertical enough to cause concern to the local residents.
Remedial work was required to repair the cracks and anchors were used to stabilise the wall from
further rotational movement and possible collapse.
CF&B carried out all site works including the local repair of brickwork, core drilling and anchor
installation. Sixty-five 95mm diameter core holes were cut through the wall on calculated centres
before the anchors were installed to a driven depth of 8m. Each anchor was then loaded and locked
off against the wall facing using a stainless steel load plate, tilt washer and recessed wedge grip. The
finishing touch to this aesthetically pleasing solution was a smooth stainless steel domed cap. The
anchor installation was designed and indemnified through Platipus.
