Priory Park Restoration, Reigate, Surrey

Client: Reigate & Banstead Borough Council, Surrey County Council
Landscape Architect: Land Use Consultants (LUC)
Landscape Contractor: UPM Tilhill

Project Specification:

Managers of this historic park were faced with the challenge of providing an authentic £7m
restoration and meeting the needs of today’s park using public. Supported by a Heritage Lottery
Fund, the restoration included a large amount of semi-mature tree planting around the sunken
garden next the 18th century house, creating an ornamental avenue adjacent to the new playground
and reinstatement of tree lined former carriage drive uncovered through archaeological research.
The car park was also redesigned and replanted, making it more navigable by pedestrians as well as
cars. Reopened in May 2008, this premier park has benefited from a makeover that has combined
original 18th century character with 21st century updates.
