Civil Engineering and Construction - Introduction
Honeycombe Beach, Bournmouth
Client: Barrat Homes
Consultant: Hawes Associates
Main Contractor: Graceland
Anchor Installer: Westpointe Ltd
Barrat Homes required additional space to build a prestigous development at Honeycombe beach, Boscombe. It was decided to cut back into the sandy slopes to obtain the space required. Sheet piles working in cantilever but this required ground anchors to provide lateral restraint.
Solution:A test anchor was driven into the sand which gave exceptional loads. So, 28 anchors were driven into the slope, through a slot in the sheet piling and on a downward incline of 10ยบ. Each anchor was then loaded between 120 and 160kN according to the load required in each section of piling.
Anchor System: B06TB aluminium bronze anchor c/w 9m of 20mm threaded stainless steel rod, 300mm x 300mm stainless steel load plate and stainless steel load nut. |
