Civil Engineering and Construction - Introduction
Hardman Square, Spinningfield
Client: Allied London
Landscape Architect: Hyland Edgar Driver
Landscape Contractor: English Landscapes Ltd
This prime commercial development located in the city centre of Manchester required landscaping to
create a more natural green environment. Eight large 1m girth oak trees were planted into
preformed concrete containers, each with their own watering system and drainage channel. The
close proximity of the surrounding buildings created a ‘wind tunnel’ effect which meant that the trees
needed to be secured for the first 5 years.
