Marine, Shoreline and Underwater Applications - Introduction

A876 Upper Forth Crossing, Kincardine

Client: Transport Scotland
Consultant: W A Fairhurst
Main Contractor: Morgan Vinci

Project Specification:

The existing sea wall was to be repositioned to run adjacent to the route of the new bridge and link road. The earthworks for the sea wall were formed from locally won material and were to be dressed with an articulating concrete block revetment system to prevent erosion and scour from the tidal effect of the Forth river at this point.

Solution:

The earthwork bund was prepared and the concrete block revetment system laid to form a new uniform and durable sea defence. In order to prevent movement and uplift of these mattresses in the event of a storm or high tidal race in the river, anchors were driven down through the leading edges of each block system set. Each anchor was installed quickly using simple hand held power tools and locked down into the block using a profiled load plate and recessed wedge grip.

Anchor System: S06EA aluminium alloy anchor c/w 2m of 4mm Ø stainless steel wire tendon, 100mm x 100mm stainless steel dished load plate & 4mm recessed wedge grip

Quantity: 1070

Anchor Design Life: 25yrs

Soil Type: Made ground
